Small teams have always won through focus. AI expands their leverage, but it also makes it dangerously easy to produce more work than customers need.
Keep the loop short
Use AI to turn rough ideas into testable artifacts quickly: a prototype, a migration plan, a set of interview questions, or a first draft. Then put the human back in charge of choosing what matters.
Make review visible
Decide which outputs require a second pair of eyes. Put those checkpoints in the workflow rather than relying on good intentions. The team should know when the system is allowed to act and when it must pause.
Protect taste
Speed is not a strategy. A small team’s advantage is still its ability to notice what feels confusing, generic, or unnecessary. Use machines for breadth; reserve human energy for direction.
